IIMCB at the European Parliament: Shaping the Future of Polish Science

On March 11–12th, IIMCB hosted a meeting organized in cooperation with the RACE project partner — the FlProf. Marta Miączyńska represented IIMCB at the European Parliament on 26 March during a meeting focused on the future of Polish science and its role in strengthening Europe’s global competitiveness.

The discussion, initiated by the Foundation for Polish Science, addressed Poland’s position in the upcoming EU Multiannual Financial Framework (2028–2033) and the need to strengthen its role in the European research and innovation ecosystem. Participants highlighted key barriers, including limited access to EU funding programmes, fragmentation of support from research to implementation, and systemic challenges affecting widening countries.

The Polish delegation included: Prof. Krzysztof Pyrć (Foundation for Polish Science), Prof. Krzysztof Jóźwiak (National Science Centre), Prof. Marek Gzik (Ministry of Science and Higher Education), Prof. Jerzy Małachowski (National Centre for Research and Development), Prof. Marek Pawełczyk (Silesian University of Technology / CRASP), and Prof. Michał Tomza (University of Warsaw).

The meeting also focused on recommendations to improve Poland’s participation in EU programmes, including strengthening the balance between research and innovation, ensuring continuity of funding from basic research to implementation, supporting technology transfer and IP development, and identifying strategic areas in which Poland can become a leader within the European research landscape.

Prof. Marta Miączyńska’s participation took place within the Work Package 6 (Policy Shaping Meetings) of the RACE project, supporting engagement in shaping research and innovation policy.
