Bringing microscopy at IIMCB to the next level

On March 11–12th, IIMCB hosted a meeting organized in cooperation with the RACE project partner — the Flanders Institute for Biotechnology (VIB). The aim of the meeting was to discuss the best strategies for developing the Microscopy Facility, particularly the experimental implementation of cutting-edge microscopy equipment now available within the IN-MOL-CELL Infrastructure.

The meeting was facilitated by Dr. Saskia Lippens, Deputy Director of VIB Technologies and former Head of the Bioimaging Facility at VIB, and Dr. Jose Rino, Head of the Bioimaging Facility at the Gulbenkian Institute for Molecular Medicine (GIMM) in Lisbon. Both facilitators have vast experience in running cutting-edge facilities that offer access to top-notch technologies and services. During the visit, they toured the Facility, met with its users and Core Facility Staff, and led a brainstorming session with IIMCB Lab Leaders. On the second day, Dr. Lippens delivered a lecture entitled „Microscopy as a Gateway to Biological Insight.”

The meeting was an important step in shaping the future of the IIMCB Microscopy Facility. The insights and recommendations provided by the international experts, combined with the collaborative discussions with Lab Leaders and Core Facility Staff, will serve as a valuable foundation for the continued growth and development of the Facility in the coming months and years.
