“Not just a research exchange – a life experience”Rosa shares her story from the University of Edinburgh

As part of the RACE project, Rosa from the Laboratory of Neurodegeneration is currently undertaking a research stay at the Institute of Genetics and Cancer, University of Edinburgh. Her project focuses on eEF1A2 modulation in neurodevelopmental disorders and high-throughput drug screening, where she gains hands-on experience with functional genomics and cell-based assays. She highlights the supportive and dynamic lab environment, full of researchers who inspire and challenge her daily. “This city blends culture, nature, and innovation beautifully. It’s not just a research exchange; it’s a life experience.” – says Rosa.

This mobility is part of the RACE project’s mission to support early-career researchers through international training, mentoring, and networking. Research stays at the University of Edinburgh last from 1 to 24 months, offering access to advanced research infrastructure, academic and industry collaboration, and the chance to live in one of Europe’s most beautiful cities.

One message stands out for prospective candidates: “To any PhD student or postdoc thinking about an international exchange: do it.
