New Preprint from IIMCB–Edinburgh Collaboration:Understanding Tissue-Specific Effects of Degron Tags

We are pleased to share the results of a collaborative study (bioRxiv link) between researchers from the IIMCB and the MRC Human Genetics Unit at the University of Edinburgh, conducted as part of the RACE consortium, funded under the Horizon Europe Teaming for Excellence programme.

The study reveals that degron tags — widely used in functional genomics — can cause tissue-specific differences in protein stability in vivo. Using the DEGRONOPEDIA platform and CRISPR-engineered mouse models, the authors identify two opposing mechanisms that shape protein turnover in different tissues. These findings highlight the need for careful, tissue-aware design of degron-based experiments and contribute to the development of more refined preclinical models.

This collaborative work exemplifies the RACE project’s goal of building scientific excellence through collaboration in RNA and cell biology. It was implemented within the strategic framework of the RACE partnership between IIMCB and the University of Edinburgh.
