Edinburgh Stories: Nathalie Idlin

On March 6th, during an internal seminar for researchers at IIMCB, PhD RACE student Nathalie Idlin talked about her study visit to the Andrew Wood Lab at the Institute of Genetics and Cancer at the University of Edinburgh. Her research visit was carried out as a part of RACE Work Package 2 – Researcher training.

Nathalie is a first-year PhD student in the Laboratory of RNA–Protein Interactions led by Prof. Gracjan Michlewski at IIMCB. During her stay at the Andrew Wood Lab, which specialises in genome editing and targeted protein degradation, she worked on generating HuR-dTAG cell lines in A549, HEK293T and THP-1 cells using the CRISPaint genome editing approach. She was also involved in a research project investigating the degradation of mitochondrial proteins.

During her presentation, Nathalie emphasised the value of international academic exchange, which promotes independence, confidence and flexibility. She appreciated networking with scientists from different backgrounds and the student-friendly environment at the University of Edinburgh.
